Coming Home to your Body

 Coming Home to Your Body

An introduction to Awakening Woman Yoni Healing — Hawaiian Nurture

There is a part of many women’s bodies that has never been truly met. Not with slowness. Not with curiosity. Not without agenda. The yoni — the whole of a woman’s genitalia and the energetic space it holds — is so often used rather than honoured, her needs ignored, her experience minimised or shamed. So many women live with pain, numbness, or deep disconnection from this part of themselves — and have simply stopped giving their yoni any attention at all.

I came to this work through midwifery. For years I held women through the most profound transitions of their lives — pregnancy, birth, loss, transformation. I learned the female body intimately, and I learned something else too: that the capacity to hold a woman through a big threshold, to walk beside her without rushing her, to trust her body’s own wisdom — that is the same capacity that lies at the heart of yoni healing. I consider this work a continuation of midwifery.

Awakening Woman Yoni Healing is a somatic bodywork practice. It is not clinical, nor sexual. It is something rarer: a space where a woman’s body is met exactly as it is, without judgment, without pressure, and without any destination in mind.

Who is this work for?

Women find their way to this work through vastly different experiences, and for many different reasons. Some have experienced trauma — a difficult birth, a shaming encounter with a doctor, a partner, or a parent. Others are navigating major transitions: childbirth, menopause, surgery, the aftermath of a break-up, or the loss of a partner. Some are simply women who have spent decades disconnected from their own pleasure and who wonder, quietly, if this work may offer a way forward. This work is for every woman, of every age.

G. is in her early thirties. A diagnosis of Lichen Sclerosa has made touch she once loved excruciating. Her doctors have medicalised her experience with little empathy for her as a sexual being. Through this work, she is gently rewriting her ‘pleasure book’ rather than simply grieving the one she has lost.

C. is in her early seventies. Since her husband’s death, she had not been in contact with her yoni at all. She never believed she could enjoy a pleasurable experience with her sexuality.

What happens in a session?

Every session begins with conversation — history, intention, hopes. The session then moves into a full-body Lomi Lomi massage, building a foundation of trust. When the yoni work begins, I sit on the table with the woman, her legs draped gently over mine. Permission is woven through every part. Communication is vital. Nothing happens without consent.

The yoni massage itself is exquisitely slow. The nerve endings begin to reach toward the touch, rather than bracing against it — a sensation most women have never experienced. Here, the body is invited to soften and open in its own time, to surrender into sensation. There is nowhere to get to. No performance. No striving. Just curiosity toward whatever is present.

What becomes possible?

The range of what women experience is wide. A first encounter with the body free from judgment. A deep sense of aliveness. A decrease in pain. A renewed interest in their own sexuality. Women learn to speak their truths, practising to speak their needs to their partners, teaching them what they themselves are only just discovering.

T. arrived at the work in her early forties, wondering if it could be possible to change the narrative of her life thus far. In the session she practised naming her sensations. Saying yes. Saying no. When she opened her eyes and said —

“Oh, my body isn’t broken after all.” — there were tears in her eyes. And in mine.

This is the thread that runs through midwifery and through this work. I hold space for women to birth the next iteration of themselves, to walk the path toward a renewed, enlivened and awakening Womanhood. Connected to her strength, aware of her sensuality and nourished by her own sexual life energy. What she discovers has always been there, waiting to be met.
